The NBA family sends love and support to KAT and his family 🙏
UPDATE: The Minnesota Timberwolves announced on Monday (April 13, 2020) that Karl-Anthony Towns’ mother, Jacqueline, died just weeks after being diagnosed with COVID-19. Our prayers and condolences to KAT and Towns family 🙏 Really heartbreaking news…
March 25, 2020:
Karl-Anthony Towns shared that his mother has been hospitalized due to health complications stemming from COVID-19.
“This disease is real… This disease needs not to be taken lightly. Please protect your families, your loved ones, your friends, yourself.”
An emotional Karl-Anthony Towns revealed that his mother, diagnosed with the coronavirus, is in a coma and connected to a ventilator. He’s clearly trying to further alert the public to the seriousness of the pandemic. Prayers up 🙏
His message to all:
WE CAN BEAT THIS, BUT THIS IS SERIOUS AND WE NEED TO TAKE EVERY PRECAUTION.
Sharing my story in the hopes that everyone stays at home! We need more equipment and we need to help those medical personnel on the front lines. Thank you to the medical staff who are helping my mom. You are all the true heroes! Praying for all of us at this difficult time.
KAT pulled the curtain up and allowed us in his personal life, he allowed us to see the pain, fear, and ambiguity of watching someone, in this case, his mother, struggle with the coronavirus. This was a truly emotional video sharing his truth and cautioning the public to take social distancing seriously.
Towns, who had to pause at times during the video to compose himself, said he was in constant contact with his mom before she was put into the medically induced coma.
Towns, who was born and raised in New Jersey, said his parents were not feeling well over the past week and that both were tested for COVID-19. Towns noted that his father, Karl Sr., was released from the hospital and had been told to self-quarantine as they awaited the results of the test.
UPDATE: Karl Sr. (father) also tested positive but reports are that he is “recovering well”. 🙏
Despite jawing, beefing and even physically fighting with Karl-Anthony Towns in the past, Joel Embiid reminds us all that family is bigger than basketball!
